About This Spot

From the moment you step inside IL Postino, there’s an inviting sense of warmth that feels both refined and unpretentious—a rare gift in a bustling city like New York. Nestled on the Upper East Side, this Italian restaurant offers an intimate sanctuary where the pace slows just enough to savor the simplest yet most exquisite pleasures of a thoughtfully prepared meal.

The atmosphere strikes a delicate balance between classic elegance and understated charm. Soft lighting, polished wood accents, and tasteful decor create a quietly sophisticated backdrop that encourages heartfelt conversations and lingering moments. It’s the kind of place where the attentive service feels personal without ever being intrusive, setting a tone that makes every guest feel truly welcome.

Dining at IL Postino is about more than the food—it’s about discovery. The kitchen crafts dishes that respect tradition while inviting subtle surprises, turning each plate into a small journey. Picture starting with tender octopus or a fresh Caprese salad where ripe tomatoes meet creamy buffalo mozzarella, then moving on to house specialties like black truffle ravioli or a silky seafood risotto that lingers in memory long after the meal ends. The menu’s rhythm is thoughtfully curated, reflecting a deep reverence for quality ingredients and expert technique.

Each course unfolds with quiet confidence, encouraging diners to slow down and savor the nuanced flavors. The desserts—whether a delicate lemon sorbet, pistachio gelato cheesecake, or a perfectly caramelized crème brûlée—offer a gentle, satisfying finale that feels like a well-kept secret shared among friends.

In a city full of options, IL Postino stands out as a place where the experience is both elevated and genuine. It’s particularly suited for those who appreciate fine dining without pretense, seeking moments that are as much about the people and atmosphere as the plate before them. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a quiet evening of exceptional Italian fare, IL Postino delivers an experience that stays with you—a reminder that good food, served with care, can nourish both body and spirit.

First class. Our service was top notch and the food was spectacular. This is a MUST when in NYC.

This is a lovely place for dinner. If you're looking for intimate fine dining and top-notch Italian cuisine, then look no further. I asked for a seafood risotto, which wasn't on the menu, and I was beyond satisfied. I stopped in for lunch and fell in love. Now the menu is a little pricey, but it's worth every penny. It's probably one of the best meals I have ever had. I'd avoid this place for happy hr as their business clientele can be a little loud and obnoxious or ask to sit in the back. And I would not miss out on desert as it is an extremely authentic experience. I look forward to dining here again. I warn new foodies about coming here & do not heed their bad reviews. This place is an acquired taste and meant for a refined customer who doesn't mind spending money. Lastly, if you're coming here for restaurant week, it should be for their whole menu.

Such a great experience. The staff deserves such great praise . They provided such a welcoming atmosphere. Was beyond impressed. The food was great . Lamp chops little over priced . This would have been an even better experience but there was a small party that was extremely loud . This one woman was very loud and obnoxious telling people at her own table “ don’t tell me what to do” . This group had extremely low class and did a disservice to the rest of the experience.

This is traditional, highest quality Italian cooking with an original flair. I had the special of the evening...black and white spaghetti with scallops of a surpassing sweetness. The dish was finished in a skillet at the table, and looked as lovely as it tasted. Service is splendid. All four of us were delighted with our meals and our wines. The décor is similarly traditional, with the stylish addition of elegant museum-sized photographs of celebrities. Thoroughly enjoyable.

We all had an amazing meal at IL Postino last night. The service was out of this world as even the owner came by our table to walk us through the menu and make recommendations. Everything from the appetizers to the mains and desserts were all excellent! If you're looking for a higher-end Italian meal, this is one of the spots to visit in NYC.

Excellent restaurant. We have been here a few times in the last couple months and haven't had a disappointing dish. The salads are fresh, appetizers on point, great branzino, perfect steak, good lamb chops, good veal, good chicken parmiagana, good pasta (we always add truffle), impressive wine list and amazing desserts. Elegant atmosphere and exceptional service. Highly recommend.
